Project Highlights Quest was first company to have OC-192 (10G) line running coast to coast in the USA.  With Bill Boyce in El Paso I trouble shot I repaired all channel problems across Arizona and into California on Quest Network. British Telecom 21 Century, Turned up and Tested Dense Wave Division Multiplexing (DWDM) fibre optic systems for Ciena.

Technical Job Duties (Project Scope) Began with the installation of Ciena Fiber Optic systems in New Pan European Network build.  Then received Ciena 4 weeks Ciena MultiWave Turn up Test Training in Lithicum Maryland.  Then returned to Europe and Turned up and Tested, Ciena Corestream 9600, 4000 and 1600 in France, Spain and Chezh Republic.  Then in the spring of 2000, I received a work Visa for the United States where I worked on an Nation wide build by Qwest Telecommunications.  Flowed by training in England of CoreStream   Regional Turn-up & Test Network and then installation and Testing of a network for British Telecom.

Turn-up & Test involves, sometimes pretesting fiber optics cables for dispersion characteristics, Using special equipment and also using an OTDR – Optical Time Domain Reflectometer.  Then the equipment is installed.  Once racks are powered up with cards, cables and equipment, it is ready for Turn-up. But first labeling to the standard of the customer is done.  Now we must first turn up the system.  First all sites in the node are turned up to max level and are checked and recorded. Then card information, IP address, operation adjustments, Alarm Clearing and programming is done.  Testing will begin once system is completely configured and operational.  Using an Optical Spectrum Analyzers and BER for 1 hour, 24 hour or as long as the customer demands is run.  All data is then loaded into data sheets and the site is complete.
